Company Profile Marc O´Polo

Marc O´Polo is one of the leading fashion brands in the Premium Casual Segment and continues to grow. The keywords; Natural, Simplicity, Quality, Personality and innovation reflect the values of our company and our employees. Marc O´Polo stands for an urban, casual lifestyle with high quality standards. The preference for natural materials can be attributed to the brand’s Swedish roots. We are excited about people who enjoy sharing these values with us and want to accompany us in our national and international expansion.

One of our major priorities is to establish early contacts with students and start on a common path together. Cooperation between the LDT Nagold and Marc O´Polo takes place at the corporate presentations at the LDT Nagold, purchasing workshop at Marc O´Polo in Stephanskirchen or also at the recruiting events in Marc O´Polo stores.

While still a student, you can lay the foundation for your future career with us by completing an internship or combining theory and practical as a part of the Dual Degree Programme. Here you can obtain insight into the daily activities of Marc O´Polo and be an active part of them. As a graduate, entry is possible through our training programme. The combination of learning and doing offers the ideal basis for taking on an entry level position.

Of course, direct entry as a junior or assistant makes it possible to bring your own ideas and skills into a new field. For young professionals we have developed a special support program that, through targeted training and on-the-job-training, can qualify them for a retail position. The focus of this “High Potential Programme Retail” is developing leadership qualities, handling key business indicators, area management and managing your own store.

How did you begin your studies at LDT Nagold and at Marc O´Polo

and what are your current tasks at Marc O´Polo?

I began my career at Marc O’Polo in a retail store. Following high school graduation and some time abroad, I worked as an assistant and then as a part-time associate at Campus in Düsseldorf. I was so excited about the company and the team that I decided to begin the dual degree programme with Marc O’Polo. In Summer 2009, I began my first practical phase at Marc O’Polo in Düsseldorf. From then on, I commuted for 2 ½ years between Düsseldorf and Nagold, between the practical and theory phases. During my studies, I realised that I wanted to go into the field of product management. After being accepted for a job in this department, I was able to begin immediately after graduation in Stephanskirchen. Since then, I work as a trainee in Women’s Product Management where I am able to learn about additional important operations and departments.

What is it that is so special about working at Marc O´Polo?

I especially like the pleasant working atmosphere at Marc O’Polo. You quickly sense that the key words from Marc O’Polo’s philosophy like “simplicity” or “personality” are genuinely embodied by the employees in their day to day work.

What advice would you give to current LDT students?

To current students I can only say that the programme at LDT gives you the qualifications necessary to get your foot in the door of a company like Marc O´Polo. Through the very practically-oriented teaching content, it is very easy for me to put theory into practice at Marc O´Polo.

I began the dual degree programme for Business Administration Textiles BTE at LDT Nagold in cooperation with Marc O´Polo in August 2009. During my practical phases since then, I’ve been able to experience many departments in the company such as Product Management, Production, Buying Retail, Customer Service and EDI. I’m currently in my fourth practical phase and am working in the shoe department. I help support the team in all areas from customer service to sample management in production and in retail sales.

How did you begin your studies at LDT Nagold and at Marc O´Polo

and what are your current tasks at Marc O´Polo?

I got to know Marc O‘Polo very early on through my internship there in the PR and Marketing Department. I knew right away that I wanted to work here. I discovered my fascination for retail by working at a Factory Outlet Store in Martinsried and was really happy when I was offered a chance to study Business Administration Textiles at LDT. At the beginning of my studies, I worked in a store in Munich to get an overview of the retail industry and be fantastically led into the world of Marc O’Polo. Since then, I work in the Dortmund store. I recently completed my project thesis, “The Marc O’Polo Textile Handbook”. During my studies, I was often able to accompany the visual merchandisers and through this, gain a deep insight into the business. As this business absolutely matches my skills and wishes, I couldn’t be happier that I can begin as a sales trainee with Marc O’Polo once I’ve finished my degree!

What is it that is so special about working at Marc O´Polo?

I especially appreciate the family atmosphere at Marc O’Polo and the relaxed “first name basis” culture. I was very well looked after during my studies. There were regular visits and staff meetings. These were especially valuable for my development and for personal interaction with colleagues and superiors.

What makes it especially fun to work at Marc O´Polo?

Due to the many exciting tasks I was given, I had contact with a wide range of people and departments. From start to finish I felt supported and a part of the team.

What advice would you give to current LDT students?

Start your semester thesis early enough! :-)
The programme requires drive and endurance but it is worth it! I learned to organise myself better and how to network. I look forward to my new role and new challenges at Marc O’Polo.

How did you begin your studies at LDT Nagold and at Marc O´Polo

and what are your current tasks at Marc O´Polo?

Following high school graduation and two internships - including time in the sales team at  Marc O’Polo - I began the full-time degree programme at LDT Nagold in March 2007 . This fun and informative time confirmed my opinion that the fashion industry is right up my alley but also that I wanted to broaden my knowledge of the industry. To combine both, I decided in 2009 to study “Taxation and Auditing” with Marc O’Polo in cooperation with the Dual University Baden-Württemberg.  I completed my practical phases in the areas of “Finance & Controlling” and “Strategic Controlling”. To the first I have remained true, even after completing my second degree, and have been working since October 2012 in International Accounting. Additionally, I manage other diverse projects,  among others I am the contact person for the topic of innovation management in the area “Finance”.

What is it that is so special about working at Marc O´Polo?

Already as a 17-year old student intern during my summer vacation, I was able to learn what it means to work at Marc O’Polo. The unique spirit captured me then and has stayed with me ever since. The “open-door policy”, the pleasure of working, the challenge and support, the determination, the human interaction with each other, the social commitment, celebrating successes, that and much more makes the family-run business at Marc O’Polo special.

What makes it especially fun to work at Marc O´Polo?
The comfortable working atmosphere and the support of young associates ensures that the work never becomes a burden and always creates a positive mood. I really enjoyed interacting with and learning from the management, and then being able to expand on their social and professional experience.

What advice would you give to current LDT students?

I would like to tell current students that LDT offers the ideal foundation to develop industry know-how that classic university graduates or others outside the sector don’t have in this form. This advantage together with professional experience through the dual degree programme - in my case with Marc O’Polo - provides the ideal foundation for an exciting career in the fashion industry.
